Householders urged to check energy tariffs

UK energy supplier Together Energy has urged householders to review their gas and electric tariffs after a report condemned the “big six” suppliers for keeping customers on poor value deals.

Ofgem has revealed that the UK’s three largest energy suppliers, SSE, Scottish Gas owner British Gas and E.ON, had the highest proportion of customers on the worst tariffs known as “standard variable tariffs” (SVTs). In its review of the UK biggest ten suppliers, the energy watchdog warned firms “could do more to get all their customers a better deal”, particularly those on poor value SVTs.

Paul Richards, CEO of Together Energy, said: “Scottish householders should really look at what they are paying for their energy bills as they could be saving up to £300 or more than if they are on an SVT with one of the big six.

“The Ofgem report shows that the big six including SSE, British Gas and E.ON are just not moving fast enough to give their customers a fair deal. They are complacent and frankly, it is an abuse of customer loyalty.

“At Together Energy only 3% of our customers are on an SVT compared to 71% for SSE. Plus when our customers come to the end of their fixed term they are contacted and offered a choice of our cheaper fixed rate tariffs – which the big six often fail to do.”

Recently Clydebank-based Together Energy launched a ground-breaking tariff offering a £100 cash-back incentive to new customers. The “Brexit Protect” tariff is a three-year fixed price protection plan designed to protect customers from potential fluctuations in energy prices as the UK negotiates its departure from Europe. The Brexit Protect service is available through to Christmas 2020 for all local householders in Scotland.

Mr Richards said: “We are already one of the lowest cost energy providers in the UK and this new deal for all Scottish residents takes the uncertainty out of budgeting for what may happen to energy prices post-Brexit.

“Thousands of customers are signing up to the new deal which also gives £100 cash back when you switch to Together Energy.”

For those Scottish householders wanting to take advantage of this unique deal you can call 0333 150 1699, or log on to and you will be switched over in 21 days.
